So ProudFriends and FamilyOur big girl has done several things to make us proud lately. Here are a couple worth noting: 1) Last night we were getting the girls ready for bed. I rocked Mara to sleep, but when I laid her down in her crib, she woke up. I thought I'd go ahead and leave her to see if she'd fall asleep on her own. Reese was already in bed. After fussing for a few minutes, Mara started to cry. We heard Reese get out of bed and say, "Oh no, Mara's crying. Here you go baby." She walked over to her crib and turned her music back on for her. Within 5 minutes, they were both asleep. 2) Reese can draw! She's always been into scribbling and has been able to draw circles and lines for a while, but now she can draw people! You have to use your imagination a bit, but check out some of her latest drawings! Submitted by Amy on Sat, 06/27/2009 - 6:31pm.
Simple Woman's Daybook-June 8thFriends and Family
Monday, June 8, 2009 Outside my window... It is dark, slightly breezy and very nice. The girls are fast asleep. I am thinking... I can't believe I went to church today wearing black pants, black shirt and brown flip flops. I fully intended to wear dress shoes. I put on my flip flops to run out to the car to grab my flat iron (I had left it in there from last weekend...that means it had been a full week since I fixed my hair). I realized when I was walking into church that I was still wearing said flip flops. I am thankful for... Air conditioning From the kitchen... We're trying to use up things in the fridge this week since we'll be out of town for 2 weeks. I am wearing... A t-shirt and shorts I am creating... A packing list for our Colorado trip I am going... To Colorado at the end of the week. This will be Mara's first time to go to Colorado. We're really looking forward to it. I am reading... Same ol', same ol'. Still haven't finished the Goblet of Fire. I read Green Eggs and Ham tonight. I am hoping... To get the packing done early this week. I always leave it to the last minute and that leads to a very unpleasant day! I am hearing... Karl listening to an audio book. I'll never be able to get into audio books. Around the house... I'm switching out Mara's clothes from 3-6 months to 6-9 months, so there are clothes everywhere. One of my favorite things... The things Reese says these days. We were at the playground yesterday and she wanted me to do an underdog. I told her that only Daddy does underdogs and she said, "Mommy, you need exercise." Where does she get these things? A few plans for the rest of the week... Tomorrow night we are headed to a patent award dinner. The girls are staying with good friends and Karl and I are getting dressed up. I'm really looking forward to it. Tuesday we have a swimming playdate and then it's off to packing. Here is a picture thought I am sharing... Reese Mara I don't think they look very much alike, but I see it sometimes. I'm not sure I see it in these, but just wanted to make a comparison. Submitted by Amy on Sun, 06/07/2009 - 10:39pm.
Irony??Deep Thoughts...I've always had a hard time deciding when a situation is truly "ironic." Alanis Morisette's song is filled with situations that simply stink and are not really ironic at all. "Rain on your wedding day" is not irony. Recently, we lost our GPS. I'm pretty sure that is irony. I read this today and wondered if this statement had any irony in it... President Barack Obama said he was "shocked and outraged" by the murder (of Dr. George Tiller, a late term abortion provider). "However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence," he said. I, in no way condone the murder of a human being. It is not our right to kill another person, guilty or innocent, born or unborn. It saddens me that someone who considers themselves pro-life, would take the life of another person. That being said, I am outraged by the president's comment. How could he call this murder a "heinous act of violence" (which it indeed is), but not call the abortion of an innocent child at even 21 weeks of pregancy a heinous act of violence?? How could he not consider that murder? I will NEVER understand. Is the president's statment ironic? Probably not, it just got me fuming. I have never blogged about anything political before because I just don't feel I am knowledgeable enough to try. I read this today, though, and it made me mad enough that I thought I'd try. I guess I take the "close my eyes and pray for the next 4 years" approach. I pray that this man doesn't destroy our country. I pray for the many, many babies that will die because of our president's ignorance. I pray that in the next election, the people of our country see that this man is NOT what our country needs. I pray and I pray and I hope that God has a plan. I know God has a plan! Submitted by Amy on Mon, 06/01/2009 - 5:45pm.
Mara's StatsFriends and FamilyWe went to the doctor today for Mara's 6 month checkup. The doctor said she looks great. Here are her stats: Weight: 16 pounds 11 ounces (50-75%) Height: 25 1/2 inches (25-50%) Head: 43.5 cm (75-90%) Once again, another big head. I'm most amazed with her weight gain. She is supposed to double her weight by 6 months. She was born at 7 pounds, 6 ounces, so she has doubled her weight plus 2 pounds! Submitted by Amy on Wed, 05/27/2009 - 4:56pm.
Mara Grace - 6 months oldFriends and Family
I wanted to wait until I had updated info from the doctor at Mara's checkup on Wednesday, but I have the time to blog now, so I thought I'd go ahead. Mara Grace is 6 months old! It's crazy how the time flies. She is such a happy baby...except when she's not. She is really developing quite the personality. No one makes her laugh like her big sister. Reese can get her rolling with laughter just by looking at her. We've found some great tickle spots lately that can get her to giggle. She loves it when I do, "The Noble Duke of York" and bounce her on my knee. She's starting to scoot, although she has a way to go before she is crawling. She can sit up on her own for a few seconds, but has a way to go on that, too. She has started solid foods and has had bananas, rice cereal, sweet potatoes and pears so far. She loves it all! I'm trying to make most of her baby food myself and I've done a pretty good job so far. She is sleeping through the night in her crib most of the time. She absolutely does not like going to the swimming pool or even the kiddie pool in the back yard. The pool is the only way to survive the hot Texas summer, so we'll have to keep working with her on that one. My mom took this picture of her on Sunday that I couldn't wait to share. Isn't it beautiful? I'll update with her info from the doctor later this week. Enjoy the latest pictures of both girls. Submitted by Amy on Mon, 05/25/2009 - 11:09pm.
Funny GirlFriends and FamilyI typed up my whole blog yesterday and then went to look for a picture to use in my picture thought and lost the whole blog. I don't have time to rewrite the whole thing, but just wanted to tell you several funny things Reese has said lately: (While watching me vacuum) Wow, this floor looks really nice! (5 minutes later) Look at this place! It's a mess! (While cuddling and laughing with Mara) Quick Daddy, get the camera! There are others, but I can't remember them right now. Just remembered one and there is one new one to add... (While looking at a teeny, tiny, scratch on her hand) This is the worst boo boo I've ever seen! and just today, we were sitting in the car by the mailbox and I was going through the mail while parked. I had just received a new bow for Reese's hair that I'd ordered and showed it to her and asked her what she thought. She said, "Mommy, put your foot on the pedal." I laughed and said, "Where did you learn that?" to which she replied, "my bike." What a goofball. Submitted by Amy on Wed, 05/13/2009 - 12:20pm.
